This Is Your Sign to Join Something: A Guide to Campus Orgs

As students finally get settled into our fall semester and our schedules become more open, many are looking for ways to engage with the campus community. If you want to get involved, here is a summary of many of the student organizations that are available, in their own words.

Access Redefined

Access Redefined is a student organization at Agnes Scott dedicated to creating a more inclusive and accessible campus for everyone. We focus on uplifting the voices of disabled students, spreading awareness about accessibility, and breaking down stigmas surrounding disability. Through panels, workshops, events, and community conversations, we work to educate peers while also building a supportive space where disabled students feel seen, heard, and valued. We also work closely with the Office of Accessible Education and the SGA Accessibility Senator, so if you’re ever facing accessibility issues, we can help connect you with resources and support. What makes us unique is our commitment to celebrating disability as an important part of diversity and identity, not something to be overlooked. Whether you’re disabled, an ally, or just curious to learn more, Access Redefined welcomes you!

Active Minds

Active Minds is a national nonprofit organization focused on normalizing conversations surrounding Mental Health. The Agnes Scott chapter is dedicated to creating safe spaces, pauses from academic stress, and overall, a fun and embracing community of Scotties! Happening this September is our annual Bob Ross Painting Night, a fun de-stressor from the stressors of being a college student. Interested in attending upcoming events or becoming an executive or casual member? Find us on Instagram! @ascactiveminds

African Student Association

African Student Association is a cultural organization dedicated to fostering and enhancing its members’ intellectual and socio-cultural development through educational and socio-cultural activities. It is a place to learn, promote, educate, and celebrate African culture in a communal environment that cultivates growth and unity. Some of our main goals are to create an encouraging community and home away from home for International African students, first and second generation Africans, and to foster an environment of learning and community for all club members, regardless of nationality or ethnicity.

Anime Club

Anime is short for animation, specifically Japanese animation. Anime club at Agnes Scott College was made for fun and leisurely activities in which people who resonate with it can join and indulge even further. The club is perfect for beginners all the way to super fans! There are activities for those who just want to watch anime and for those who want to be more interactive. As we are a community of anime watchers, manga readers, and Japanese music fans, we understand your feelings when you’re geeking out over an intro or a character! Members of this club are passionate about anime, but it’s deeper than that. There are characters, voice actors, art, music/lyrics, animation style, and the key piece that binds it all together: the story. These stories are so powerful and well-written that they can change your perspective and life, as their messages can resonate with everyone.
