Review: Take Shelter

Too soon to get your Oscar ballots ready? Not if you’ve seen Jeff Nichols’ newest film, Take Shelter, based on his screenplay. Michael Shannon delivers a tour de force performance as Curtis LaForche, a mild mannered contractor working to support his loving wife Samantha, superbly portrayed by Jessica Chastain, and their six-year-old daughter Hannah who has recently lost her hearing. Their stable and loving happiness is threatened when Curtis begins to have terrifying nightmares of a biblical nature of an apocalyptic storm on the horizon.
